The n’importe… family

Structures with n’importe express indifference to the choice: n’importe qui (anyone), n’importe quoi (anything), n’importe où (anywhere), n’importe quand (any time), n’importe comment (any old way), n’importe quel + noun (any), n’importe lequel (any of them).

quiconque and “whatever” phrases

quiconque (formal) = “whoever / anyone who”: Quiconque enfreint la règle sera puni. The phrases qui que ce soit (anyone at all), quoi que ce soit (anything at all), où que ce soit are common in the negative, and the clauses qui que / quoi que require the subjunctive.

💡⚠️ tout as adverb vs pronoun

tout can be a pronoun (“everything”: Tout est prêt), an adjective (“all”: toute la nuit), or an adverb (“quite”: Ils sont tout contents). As an adverb tout is usually invariable, but agrees before a feminine adjective starting with a consonant: toute surprise.
