Les jours, les mois et la date
Talking about the calendar and telling the date
⚡Key points
Les jours de la semaine
In France the week starts on lundi (Monday). Days are written with a lowercase letter (unlike English).
- lundi — Monday
- mardi — Tuesday
- mercredi — Wednesday
- jeudi — Thursday
- vendredi — Friday
- samedi — Saturday
- dimanche — Sunday
lundi or le lundi?
lundi (no article) = this coming Monday
Lundi, je vais à Paris. (on Monday)
le lundi (with article) = every Monday
Le lundi, je travaille. (on Mondays)
Les mois et les saisons
The months are also lowercase. To place something in a month, use en; for seasons, use en (except spring: au printemps).
- janvier · février · mars · avril · mai · juin
- juillet · août · septembre · octobre · novembre · décembre
- Seasons: le printemps · l’été · l’automne · l’hiver

For the date, say on est le (or c’est le) + number + month. The number is a normal number, except the 1st of the month: le premier.
The structure of the date
Asking

C’est quand, ton anniversaire ?
Answering

C’est le premier janvier. (1er)
