Le passé composé avec être

A small group of verbs (mainly verbs of movement and change of state) form the passé composé with the auxiliary être, not avoir. With être, the past participle agrees with the subject.

💡⚠️ Agreement of the participle with être

With être, the past participle agrees with the subject: add -e in the feminine, -s in the plural. Il est parti / Elle est partie / Ils sont partis / Elles sont parties. (In speech, the difference is heard only for a few participles.)
Paul est allé à Paris.
Marie est allée à Paris.
Les filles sont arrivées.
