Recognising the colloquial register

Colloquial vocabulary (разговорная) is correct in relaxed speech; low / reduced vocabulary (сниженная, просторечие) is lower and sometimes non-standard. At C1 the point is to recognise the register and use it appropriately.

💡⚠️ Colloquial ≠ просторечие (non-standard)

Colloquial vocabulary (разг.: мужи́к, вкалывать) is correct in relaxed speech, but avoid it in careful writing. Do not confuse it with просторечие (low non-standard speech): forms like ихний (instead of их) or ложить (instead of класть) are incorrect — recognise them, but never use them.
